“Cognitive Science meets the Humanities” – Italian Association of Cognitive Science (AISC) – Midterm Conference 2020
May 26th-28th, 2020, University of Parma
The 2020 Italian Association of Cognitive Science (AISC) Midterm Conference will be held at the University of Parma on May 26th-28th and will be hosted by the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Cultural Industries.
The aims of the conference are to evaluate the state of the art with respect to the dialogue between cognitive science and the humanities, and to develop novel ways to foster their connection. These goals will be achieved through interdisciplinary talks, semi-structured symposia, Author-Meets-Critics, etc. The contributions will be focused on investigating the current relation between the “cognitive science hexagon” – i.e. neuroscience, psychology, computer science, linguistics, philosophy and anthropology – and disciplines studying human society and culture, such as literature, law and politics, economics, history, archaeology, visual and performing arts.
We are interested in exploring questions such as: What are the practical contributions of cognitive science to the humanities, and vice versa? Which field of the cognitive sciences has contributed the most to boost research in the humanities? Which area of the humanities would benefit the most from this collaboration? Which areas are in need of further development, and why? What is the role of interdisciplinary research and practice when it comes to devising new paradigms and professional opportunities?
