Call for Papers: SMS 2021
** Sixth Annual Conference of the Society for the Metaphysics of Science
** 1-4 September 2021 – Online via Zoom
** Submission deadline: 5 April 2021
The Society for the Metaphysics of Science (SMS) will be holding its
sixth annual conference on 1-4 September 2021 online over Zoom. Kerry
McKenzie (University of California, San Diego) will deliver the
Presidential Address; we also are pleased to announce keynote talks from
John Dupré (University of Exeter), Barbara Vetter (Free University,
Berlin) and Jo Wolff (University of Edinburgh).
Submission is invited of papers on any aspect of the metaphysics of
science, broadly construed. Paper presentations will be 30 minutes, with
a 10 minute commentary, 5 minute reply, and 15 minute Q&A. Submissions
should be full papers in PDF format, of no more than 4500 words
(references and footnotes not included), and should include an abstract
of 150-250 words and a word count. All papers must employ
gender-neutral language and be prepared for anonymous review.
In cases where events related to the pandemic have significantly
hindered their recent research, authors may opt to submit a 200-300 word
abstract instead of a full paper.
Submissions must be made using the EasyChair online submission system at
https://easychair.org/conferen
The submission deadline is 5 April 2021 (midnight UTC). Notifications of
acceptance will be delivered by 28 May. Selected speakers should confirm
their participation by 28 June.
